Alan J. Levy, PhD

Dr. Levy practices psychoanalysis and psychodynamic psychotherapy (Click here to learn more about psychoanalysis). He received his B.A. with honors from New York University (Major: Psychology. Minors: Biology, Philosophy), his Masters degree from Simmons University (Boston), and his PhD from Columbia University. Dr. Levy completed his postgraduate training in contemporary psychoanalysis at the National Institutes for the Psychotherapies (New York). He interned at a Harvard teaching hospital and practiced at Tufts and Columbia teaching hospitals, all in the departments of psychiatry. Moreover, he has held faculty appointments at Columbia, the University of Southern California, Loyola University Chicago, and the University of Chicago. Prior coming to the Chicago area, Dr. Levy maintained private practices in New York City and in Beverly Hills, CA.

Dr. Levy was elected as a Distinguished Scholar and Fellow of the National Academies of Practice, received the Distinguished Career Award from Simmons University, and the Educator’s Award from the National Institute for the Psychotherapies. He also received the Edith Sabshin Award from the American Psychoanalytic Association. Dr. Levy is past president, faculty, and a member of the Board of Directors at the Chicago Center for Psychoanalysis. He is caring, considerate, and compassionate in his work with his clients
